Wymondham Rugby Club Minis celebrated an extremely successful season with their annual end of season presentation.

Former Wymondham Mini and current Leicester Tigers academy star Joe Cousins presented the awards at Tuttles Lane.

Cousins joined Wymondham Minis at five years old and progressed through the youth set up before joining the Tigers academy.

Wymondham Minis have had a stunning season, largely thanks to the committed coaches who regularly give up their Sunday mornings to train more than 200 players.

These potential young Jonny Wilkinsons take part in matches and festivals the length and breadth of the county.

This year Wymondham delivered three grand slam victories of all three major Norfolk festivals.

The under-9, 10 and 11 sides all came away with the top prize. At the West Norfolk Festival earlier in the season, five out of the six age groups were won by teams representing Wymondham.

Wymondham's success was not just confined to Norfolk.

The under-10s reached the quarter-finals of the Prima Cup played at the home of Leicester Tigers, Welford Road.

But pride of place went to the under-11s, who by winning the Landrover Cup at Northampton Saints earned the opportunity to perform a lap of honour at Twickenham before a sell-out crowd at the Guinness Premiership final on May 29. Mondham player Henry Burton is looking forward to taking his place in the Parade of the Champions. He said: 'I had a really fun day at the Premiership Cup and we were very happy to win. I am really looking forward to going to Twickenham and can't wait to see the Guinness Premiership final. I am particularly excited about parading around the pitch at half-time.'

His enthusiasm is shared by England rugby star James Haskell, who said: 'It's great to see so much enthusiasm and enjoyment for the game and it's brilliant that tournaments like this exist to help young players develop their skills and competitive nature.

'Twickenham is a special place to be for any player, I hope it's something they enjoy and the enormity of the occasion will inspire these players to go on to have further success.'

There has been no rest for Wymondham Minis as a few weeks ago they set off on tour to Sussex to play in festivals at Rye Rugby Club.

Wymondham Minis cater for ages ranging from under-6 to under-12, boys and girls of all abilities. Those up to under-8 play tag rugby, moving on to full contact at under-9.

The new season kicks off in September. Anyone interested in joining can contact Minis chairman Robert Burton at minichair@wymondhamrugby.com
