Beehive Lodge and Honeysuckle Cottage in Costessey - one of the most photographed properties in Norfolk - is for sale for £775,000.
This former gatehouse with its round architectural structure, pretty thatch and Gothic style windows makes it a big attraction for visitors to the county, who literally stop and snap away.
Certainly at this time of year with the colourful flowers in the front garden, it really is extremely photogenic and quintessentially Norfolk. Interestingly, in 1999 the house made headlines when it was offered as a fabulous life changing prize in a Daily Mail competition.
The current owners actually entered that competition and were not lucky but they did end up with the house. The winners never actually moved in but sold it through an agent, taking the cash, and the property came back onto the market and was bought by the current vendors.
Over the last 15 years, the couple have made extensive improvements, working within its listing, and it has served as a wonderful home not only for them but for their daughter and her family including her two children who live in the self contained Honeysuckle Cottage in the grounds. With the children getting bigger and needing more room, the decision has been taken to sell.
What you have is a very unique property situated with river frontage, fishing rights and at the rear, woodland, which is on the doorstep of the city.
Beehive Lodge was built as the gate house for the Costessey Estate and later used as a hunting lodge before becoming a private home.
What makes it so special is its rounded design and pretty thatch but the rooms inside are suprisingly spacious and the vendors have extended the property which now boasts a super contemporary kitchen on the rear with windows replicated in the Gothic style as well as a conservatory, which mirrors the rounded shape of the main house.
Off an entrance hall, you have the central rounded core which is divided into two halves; a sitting room and a dining room with the kitchen off this and a second sitting room, study and conservatory on the other side.
Upstairs in the main rounded core are three bedrooms, two with cleverly created en suites and then over the kitchen extension is the master bedroom with an en suite.
Tucked away behind Beehive Lodge is the self contained two/three bedroom Honeysuckle Cottage which has its own kitchen/breakfast room, a dining room and sitting room.
Outside there is approximately 90 metres of private river frontage with fishing rights and lovely gardens with lots of different sun drenched areas as well as a large lawned garden at the rear backing onto the woodland.
