It's usually a difficult decision to sell your beloved home but for the owners of The Firs in Horsford - for sale for £500,000 - it took a purchase abroad to finally get them thinking of selling this beautifully presented and extended former school house,
Kathy and Barry Carter never thought they would want to sell their beautiful Horsford period home - but then came the lure of spending time in a villa abroad.
Husbands everywhere, take heed of Barry Carter’s method of persuading his wife to sell their beloved home. He promised to buy her a villa in Florida.
Not only that but he built them a new house on adjoining land to their current home.
The result is Mr and Mrs Carter, aged 55 and 51 respectively, are now joining the army of downsizers and selling up their four/five beautifully extended former school house home to move into a smaller property and spend time in their newly purchased villa in Florida.
They are doing what so many couples - the average age of the typical downsizer being 56 - have decided to do; selling up to release equity for investment abroad and to improve their quality of life.
“I just feel life is for living, I have had a lot of sadness in my life and we just decided that buying a villa abroad was not only the right decision for us but also for our family,” said Mrs Carter.
Between them, they have five children aged from 19 to 28 and their first grandchild and are really looking forward to their family being able to go and stay with them at the villa based in Kissimmee.
The couple have also created their own website for the property and are letting it at various times of the year.
Although a difficult decision, they have just decided to put their house on Corner Lane in Horsford on the market with William H Brown.
The property is situated in a quiet location and is just five minutes from Norwich International Airport.
When they bought it they set to work on extending the kitchen into a super kitchen/living/entertaining space with a vaulted ceiling and travertine flooring which has doors opening onto the rear garden.
They have also made a lovely enclosed outdoor space with a large jacuzzi tub where they have enjoyed some fabulous evenings under the stars and also hosted parties which have spilled out onto this area from the receptions.
Mr Carter, a self taught builder, created a long hallway at the front off which is a guest bedroom and also a study as well as a pretty living room overlooking the front of the house.
Upstairs is a fabulous master bedroom with a large en suite and dressing room, three further bedrooms and a bathroom.
Outside is a garage and off road parking but also a former stable/outbuilding which could be converted to a home office.
