Majority wants new supermarket on Aylsham Road

Plans to build a new Morrisions store in the north of the city have been met with approval.

Fans of the Evening News Facebook page have given the proposals the thumbs up while our reader poll shows that about three-quarters if you are in favour of the plans.

Morrisons plans to build a food store on the site of Goff Petroleum, off Aylsham Road.

The two companies have worked together to come up with the design for the 20,000 sq ft store which would provide 250 new jobs.

A public exhibition was held last month which saw local shopkeepers raise concerns about the development, fearing it would impact their businesses.

But here's what you said on Facebook when asked if you would like to see the store built:

Maureen Tunmore: Oh yes

Carole Marshall-Nichols: Yes definitely!!

Emma Edwards: Definitely! Since I've moved I don't live near a Morrisons and I really miss it. Having one local would be great.

Becki Willis: y not! there are plenty more places to put the car washers!!!! Morrisons is much much better!!!!

Jackie Parker: Yes as we can shop there at weekends and on match day :)

Jane-ellen Worrall: y not, there is too many Tescos, about time someone else was allowed to have a second site

Michaela Vincent: Yes definitely! More job opportunities for people too :)

Lisa Shaw Webb: Better cakes and pies than Asda lol :D so I say definitely 'yes' to having a Morrisons.

Rebecca Stehr: Yes yes yes :-D x

Paul Mace: Yes :-)

Robert Morphy: Yes, only got to walk to top of my road then

Sharon Knuth: Yeah that's a brilliant idea

Jackie Moore: Competition for Co-op and little Tesco and Asda, will be ok if it is going to be as large as Riverside, otherwise it will be more expensive

Gary Pampling: Anything got to look better than that lol

Laura Finlayson: I would use it so yeah definitely

Becky Belsey: Yes, Morrisions are the best. We need more of them and what a good place to have it.

Paul Downing: What a great idea, this is such an ugly looking site. Can only have a positive impact on house prices too!

Rebecca West Was Vince: I'd use it

Liz Miffy Howlett: Better than another Tescos

William Hawes: Too right, this would be better but may congest road during peak times as Tesco does this already

But not everyone believes it is a good idea.

Sean Bennett simply said 'no' while Paul Reed added: 'No I hate Morrisons. One is enough! Unless they went through a major rebrand including changing logo, and store identities!'
