Canary legend Jeremy Goss lays down a challenge to keen cyclists today: 'Join the Goss Squad for the first leg of my Back to Bayern bike ride.'

Goss, pictured, sets out on August 3 on his epic 1,300-mile ride back to the Olympic Stadium in Munich where he scored the spectacular 20-yard volley that effectively dumped the German giants out of the Uefa Cup on a night of glory that lives long in the memories of Norwich City fans.

Now fundraising manager for the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind, he is doing the journey to raise funds for the charity, which helps 20,000 blind and partially sighted people in Norfolk.

Goss is now looking for 20 keen cyclists to raise 250 each for a place alongside him on the first, 100 mile long Norwich to Harwich leg of the ride.

'I know it may be a lot of money for individuals, so I'm hoping experienced cyclists who would like to join me might look at getting their own sponsorship,' he said.

'We're not planning to ride at break-neck speed so there'll be plenty of time to chat along the way, and I'm planning two pit stop breaks on the route where we can chew over old times.'

Goss is being seen off on his ride by the Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Rev Graham James, who is president of the NNAB, at 11am on August 3, from Norwich Cathedral.

He is being joined as far as Arnhem – where City played their first Uefa Cup game against Vitesse Arnhem – by North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb, who is also raising money for the NNAB, as well as the Benjamin Foundation.

Book your place with Goss by ringing him on 07714 524388 or e-mailing him at jeremygoss@nnab.org.uk.
