Youngsters will be put through a virtual reality car crash next week as part of a scheme to deter young people from reckless driving.

South Norfolk Council, Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, and Norfolk Police have joined forces to try and reduce antisocial driving in the district.

Two free 'Crashed but not Crushed' events will take place from next week , which will offer young drivers the chance to experience crashing a car - and being cut out of it - in a safe environment.

Youngsters in Wymondham and Diss will get an insight into crashing through an interactive DVD called “the drive of your life” before being cut out of a real-life car wreck by firefighters. They will also get to sit in the driving seat of one of the fastest police cars on the road.

The initiative aims to make young drivers think again about reckless behaviour behind the wheel and save lives.

The events will take place at Wymondham fire station from 7pm to 9pm on Friday April 9 and at Diss Fire Station from 7pm to 9pm on Friday April 16.

Anyone aged 15 to 19 can take part in 'Crashed but not Crushed' by calling 01508 533933 or emailing neighbourhoods@s-norfolk.gov.uk
