The final touches are being made to an event which will unite the community in Wymondham this weekend. A Day to Remember, a community event which will celebrate Wymondham's status as the first dementia friendly town in the county, will be held on Saturday from 9am.

Stalls showcasing what the town has to offer will be set up on the day in a bid to bring people together.

Events will be held in the market place, the library, Central Hall car park, the Baptist Church and in Priory Gardens, opposite Jarrold and people will be treated to martial arts displays and mini performances from the Wymondham Players.

There will also be a classic car display, fire engine and Wymondham Youth Bus at Central Hall and stalls from Wymondham Church Network, Age UK and Fosters Solicitors peppered around the town.

The event will be formally opened by the mayor, Dianne Fernee, and Jo Mountjoy-Dixon from Age UK Norfolk will be speaking about the town's links with dementia awareness.

David Disney, chairman of Wymondham Business Group, which is organising the event, said the day was intended to be inclusive for everyone.

'It has taken a lot of planning. 'It's our first event and we are confident it will be a success.

'There is something for everybody and we even have an event for toddlers in Priory Gardens.

'It's a free event to celebrate the fact that we are Norfolk's first dementia-friendly town.'

Working alongside Age UK, business owners have been undertaking training to make their shops and services more accessible to those with the condition. The business group is hoping to improve the town.

'We are going to hold more events throughout the year to try and fill some gaps in the calendar. 'One of my personal aims is to reinstate the carnival,' Mr Disney added.
