Thanks to one mother’s brainwave, there will soon be a place for people to donate unwanted baby items for families in need to enjoy them.

The Baby Bank Norfolk is a new group that hopes to be up and running by March – but needs a helping hand to get started. A group of eager volunteers are already championing the organisation, which is the first of its kind in the county.

Vicky Huckle, 38, from Wymondham, founded Baby Bank Norfolk, after seeing that mothers were crying out for a place to donate their baby clothes, Moses baskets and other items they no longer needed.

One morning she decided to take action. She said: “I woke up at 4am and thought ‘I need to do something about this’.

“I know there will be people who would really welcome these things.

“We have had so much interest already, 4 Secure Storage have been great and donated some storage but we will quickly outgrow that and really need an office space or shop in Norwich to get going.

“It would be nice if all of the donations could go to a good home.”

They non-profit organisation has already applied for charity status and has raised more than £250 by Crowd Funding.

The cash needed to kickstart the project will go towards insurance, shelving, storage and helping to set up a website.

They hope to provide new mattresses for donated cots, clean all of the clothing and package them for distribution and hold nearly-new sales.

Mrs Huckle, who is a mother herself, added: “We have been inundated with support and volunteers, I already have a team of 15 mummies trying to raise funds – it is all coming together.”

The Baby Bank Norfolk’s Facebook page received nearly 500 likes in its first week.
