Regulars at a city pub will have the chance to raise a glass - or a bottle - to every single nation competing in this year's World Cup as part of a beer festival celebrating the event.

Phil Cutter, landlord of the Murderers pub on Timberhill has hunted high and low to find bottled beers from each of the 32 nations playing in the World Cup in South Africa.

The extraordinary feat means that whether you are from Argentina, Brazil, Chilie, Denmark, France, Ghana, Honduras, Portugal, Serbia, or Slovenia then there should be something that takes your fancy at the Murderers.

Mr Cutter said: 'For the beer festival there are 32 different beers from each of the qualifying countries. There's been some that I've struggled to get hold of so have had to get local alternatives.

'But from 32 countries I've got beers from 27 of them which isn't a bad effort. People will be able to come in and sample beers from each country which is unique. We has some Greeks come in last week and they were amazed to see Mynos on sale and stayed for six bottles each which was nice.'

Mr Cutter said the beer festival, which will be taking place throughout the World Cup, was part of a celebration in Timberhill which will see Timberhill decked out in flags and red and white colours to cheer on England.

He said: 'The Castlegates have got flags from every country in the World Cup and the whole street is trying to pull together and decorate the area in St George's crosses and red and white.

'We don't celebrate things as much as we should and it's quite an achievement to get to the World Cup anyway and to cheer on the boys is very, very important.

'It's good to see all the cars going around the city at the moment with flags. It's the least we could do to try and decorate the street and try and bring it up to standard.'

Mr Cutter said the pub would be showing every game in the pub on its HD TV screens meaning fans could get the best possible quality view of all the action.

There are even TV screens in the toilets so fans needing to spend a penny during the game do not have to worry about missing any of the goals or major moments.
