Norfolk's coroner William Armstrong told an inquest that two men had been saved thanks to kidney donations from a 35-year-old Norwich woman.

He told a Norwich inquest that it was a tribute to the woman, Connie Bolton, that the men had survived thanks to the donations.

Miss Bolton, who lived in a flat off Pottergate in the city centre, was pronounced dead at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital on May 26.

Mr Armstrong said: 'The circumstances of her death were that she was admitted to hospital on May 24 suffering from nausea and vomiting and increased shortage of breath. She went into cardiorespiratory arrest and despite being transferred to the intensive care unit, she suffered multiple organ failure and died two days later.'

A post-mortem examination was carried out and the cause of death was given as diffuse alveolar damage, which is found in lung disease.

Recording a verdict of death from natural causes, Mr Armstrong said: 'Her mother and other members of her family gave permission for her organs to be donated. Her kidneys were given to two men, one in his 30s and one in his 50s. Both these men have benefited as a result of the kidneys being donated and I would like to highlight that as a tribute to Connie.'

Miss Bolton's family is believed to live locally, but they did not wish to comment.

Earlier this month, the Evening News told how more than 260 people in Norfolk are waiting for a transplant, as it emerged just 31pc of people in the county are signed-up to the organ donation register.

The latest figures, for May 2011, show that there are 263 people in Norfolk on the NHS Blood and Transplant waiting list, and 43 of those are in Norwich. One of those to benefit was Tim Adamson, who has just returned from the World Transplant Games in Sweden with gold and silver medals in badminton. He suffered kidney failure in 2002 due to a genetic condition.

The 42-year-old, from Old Costessey, Norwich, backed calls for more people to sign up to the register.

He said: 'I am hugely grateful to that individual and their family for making that decision.'
