Schools across Norwich are being urged to get active on Sport Relief weekend – and raise some serious cash.

The 2012 Sport Relief campaign comes to a head on the weekend of March 23-25, with the big night of telly on Friday night, and the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile in Norwich on Sunday.

Organisers want to make this year's Sport Relief bigger than ever and are calling on schools and early years groups to get warmed up now to beat the East of England's 2010 total of more than 240,000.

Across the country, more than 4.3m was donated by primary and secondary schools, nurseries and playgroups.

To help teachers get started, they can sign up for a free resource pack bursting with fund-raising ideas, posters, balloons, and stickers, as well as interactive learning resources to help pupils understand where the money goes – available from sportrelief.com / schoolstuff

There are plenty of ways schools and early years groups in Norwich can get involved in Sport Relief 2012, but the best way to be a part of it is to organise a Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile in your school on Friday, March 23.

Children can run, skip, hop, dance or even hula hoop down to the finish line, and the free fund-raising pack contains all the materials to help you organise it. All the money raised goes to help people living difficult lives in Norwich, right across the UK and in some of the world's poorest countries.

Aleks Leimanis of Comic Relief said: 'Schools and early years groups really are some of the best fund-raisers for Sport Relief and we are eternally grateful for their dedication and hard work.

'We love hearing about what you have planned – so come on Norwich, go the extra mile and be a part of something truly fantastic.'
