You've got your ticket to one of the Norwich Fashion Week shows or you're planning to go to one of the free events, but now you just don't know what to wear. Help is at hand. Emma Harrowing gets some style tips from some of the stylists at Norwich Fashion Week.

It's ironic; you want to find out what will be the fashion trends for the new season at the shows and events during Norwich Fashion Week, but you just don't know what to wear to look stylish and 'on-trend'.

With day and evening events on the fashion week menu it can be difficult to decide what you should wear. Should you stick to your trusty little black dress and dress it down for the daytime with a blazer and some flats and glam it up for the evening with some jewels and a pair of heels? Or should you go for something a little more daring, dazzling or decadent?

Then there is the mix of mainstream, independent and vintage fashion. Can you wear your jeans and a 'nice top' to all, will you feel out of place if you don't do retro for one of the vintage events?

Of course you will look stylish whatever you wear and it doesn't matter if you don't do vintage or this season's ankle grazing trousers because the idea behind Norwich Fashion Week is for you to have fun with fashion.

But if you are having a slight panic in the wardrobe department, maybe these tips from some of the top stylists at Norwich Fashion Week will help:

How to rock the latest trends by Louise Lace, stylist at Vanilla. Louise is also styling the Independents Fashion Show at Norwich Fashion Week on September 22.

Says Louise: 'There are four main trends this season: the boy/girl look with ankle grazing trousers and Chelsea boots; the prim and polished 40s, 50s and 60s look; optic shock with rust, orange and berry colours and the new native with Navajo pattern, tassles and crochet. Basically it's a season of shapes, retro styling from the early 40s to late 80s and having fun with your clothes.

'For the Norwich Fashion Week launch show; a bright colour body con dress with block heels, colour clash jewels, clashing prints and a snake print bag is just the outfit to dazzle the fashionistas in Norwich. Stripes and bold colour remain high on the fashion radar and if you are daring to wear colour, wear colour block and clash your colours with red and orange or mustard yellow and electric blue.

'For the Cut the Cloth Norwich Lanes show on September 23, go for a kooky, vintage inspired outfit from 40s dolly bird to 60s mod. Ankle grazing trousers with a pretty chiffon jewelled top, lace ankle socks and retro colour block heels. Carry a large soft leather clutch.

'For the Vanilla fashion shows on September 28 and 29 go for a 60s vibe with black tailored trousers, a neat boy/girl shirt tucked in with a skinny snake print belt and print clashing leopard print shoes. Carry a soft metallic clutch to give your look an edgy feel.'

How to wear vintage by Gemma Seager, Retro Chick blogger and Vintage Norwich who is part of the Fashion on Film event at Cinema city on September 28.

Wearing Vintage by Day

Says Gemma: 'Old floral 1970s day dresses are easily adapted for daytime wear, especially at this time of year, and can be picked up fairly cheaply. They often have long sleeves to keep out the autumn chill, or team them with a smart jacket or vintage trench coat. Striking accessories can turn a seemingly frumpy dress into an amazing outfit. If it's too cold for bare legs, then opaque tights come in such an amazing array of colours that you can easily find a pair to tone with one of the colours in the dress. Try matching them to your shoes for the illusion of longer legs. Finally, don't be afraid of hats and gloves during the day, they'll keep you warm and looking stylish.' Wearing Vintage by Night

Says Gemma: 'For evening, wearing a genuine 1950s wiggle dress will make you feel like a bombshell. Hemlines might be lower than you are used to and the neckline a little higher, but it's amazing how sexy a dress that shows so little skin can make you look and feel! With a wiggle dress it's all about the curves, so if you feel you're lacking in that area you can accentuate your waist by adding a belt to draw attention to it. With a stunning centre piece dress you don't want your accessories to outshine it, so keep them minimal. A clutch bag, elegant shoes and a small hat or hair accessory should be all you'll need for full-on evening glamour.'

How to update your little black dress by Karen James-Welton from Blue Skies Vintage, who is organising the Madhatters vintage tea party and fashion show on September 25.

Says Karen: 'With the catwalks showing a real vintage vibe, what better than to take inspiration from past eras.

'One of the hottest looks is the 70s, so what better for a daytime look than a wide leg trouser and a pussy bow blouse, neat blazer and floppy hat or a peasant blouse, maxi skirt and boots. Or if you want a ladylike feel, than go for the 40s with tea dresses or neat tailored suits that fit like a glove – add in some gloves and a beret or trilby for a stylish daytime look. The final trend is for the 60s Mod, so look to Jean Shrimptom or Twiggy with funky shift dresses and tunics worn with knee length boots or stack heel courts, add a peacoat if it's chilly.'

'To dress up for the evening, why not take inspiration from one of the style icons who takes centre stage during fashion week – Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's and put on a LBD – you can take inspiration from all the eras on trend this season.

'Look to Bianca Jagger or Jerry Hall for the 70s vibe, think Studio 54 with long, lean, jersey column dresses, or for a LBD with a twist try a slinky jumpsuit with an arm full of bangles and a pair of glitzy gold heels.

'Keep it elegant and simple with a classic Jackie O style shift worn with high heeled pumps or a kitten heel, add a cute cocktail hat and long black gloves to the elbow.

Or, if you want to go for the real Hollywood glamour of a bygone era, an opera coat over a long bias cut dress or a sharp suit in a silky fabric and a faux fur stole and costume jewellery.

'Whatever your chosen era, vintage inspired or original is a great way to look fabulous for Norwich Fashion Week.'
