Car owners in Norwich are being urged to be vigilant and remove valuables from their vehicles after a spate of recent thefts.

Over the past few months there has been spree in the University and Eaton area overnight with thieves specifically targeting vehicles parked in and around Russet Grove.

Inspector Russell Watkins from University and Eaton SNT said “residents can deter opportunist thieves by taking simple steps such as removing valuables from vehicles and removing any evidence of Sat Navs which means wiping the windscreen clear of any marks left by the equipment.”

To reduce the chances of falling victim to car crime Norfolk Constabulary offers the following advice:

Leave vehicles locked and secure at all times - even if left unattended for only a minute.

Remove all valuables and personal belongings from the vehicle entirely.

Audio equipment, sat navs, mobile phones, laptops and handbags are particularly sought after - remove evidence of these from your vehicle when out and about or even overnight.

Remove evidence sat navs including the suction marks on the windscreen.

Property mark your valuables so if they are stolen, they can be more easily traced if recovered.
