A village school near Norwich has received a glowing recommendation from inspectors and parents, who labelled it 'a very special place'.

Alpington and Bergh Apton Primary, which is six miles to the south-east of the city, was given a 'good' overall rating after an inspection on January 26 and 27.

The school, at Wheel Road, Alpington, has 103 pupils and is led by headteacher Teresa Osborne.

It got good ratings in most areas, which the exception being those rated outstanding, including:

t the quality of learning for pupils with special educational needs

t pupils' behaviour

t pupils safety

t the effectiveness of care, guidance and support

t the school's engagement with parents and carers.

The report said: 'Parents describe this good school as 'a very special place' and commend it for its 'warm, friendly and productive' ethos.

'Several features of its work are outstanding. Most noteworthy is the extremely effective support for those pupils who may be facing difficulties, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, which contributes to the exceptional progress they make.'

Inspectors said the school had 'developed well' since the previous inspection, and added: 'Outstanding care and support helps pupils to flourish.'
