Roads in Norfolk and Suffolk were blocked this morning after winds hitting 45mph blasted the region overnight.

A large number of roads have been or still are being cleared of fallen trees. Police say a number of smaller country roads are still blocked but the main roads should be all clear. They are advising travellers to be cautious.

Currently, the A11 at Snetterton is the last of the main roads being cleared of fallen tree debris.

The are no major problems reported in Norwich.

Police advise people to travel cautiously, especially on the back roads.

Norfolk and Suffolk Fire and Rescue received a number of calls regarding electricity cables arcing, causing sparks when they touch. No major incidents have occurred as a result, and they stress that this is a regular occurrence when winds are this strong.

They also received calls regarding signs and other objects becoming hazardous due to strong winds.

To report a potential hazard or fallen down tree, call Norfolk and Suffolk Police on 101.

UPDATE: Strong winds are currently causing delays to train services.

The 8.41am Norwich to Great Yarmouth service and the 8.47 Great Yarmouth to Norwich have been cancelled.

Other delays include trains between Norwich and Lowestoft due to a fallen tree on the track at Lingwood.

All routes via Thetford are being disrupted due to a fallen tree on the line between Shippea Hill and Lakenheath.

UPDATE: The following schools in East Anglia are closed today; Acle High School, the site has been declared unsafe due to flying debris from loose roofing and solar panels; Banham Community Primary School is closed due to a failed attempt at a fixing the boiler; Castle Acre CE VC Primary School will remain closed until power is restored in the village. They request parents and carers call the school in advance of sending children in today, should the power come back on.

Aldborough Primary School is closed due to having no electricity.
