Police are investigating two assaults that happened in Norwich overnight.

The first assault took place shortly after 11.50pm when officers were called to Prince of Wales Road in Norwich and arrived to find a man in his 20s unconscious on the pavement.

A police spokesman said the man was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with serious head injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.

A number of people were arrested at the scene in connection with the incident and are currently in custody at Wymondham Police Investigation Centre.

Meanwhile, in a separate and unrelated incident, police are also investigating how a man came to be injured in Riverside Road in Norwich earlier this morning.

Police were called to the area, near to the junction with Prince of Wales Road, shortly after 1.10am following reports a man was unconscious.

The man, in his 20s, was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where he received treatment for a fractured cheekbone. He has since been released from hospital.

The area was cordoned off until 9.20am while police carried out enquiries.
