Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding an acid attack in Pakefield, which left a woman with severe facial burns.

It comes as a third man, who was arrested yesterday in connection with the assault in Lowestoft, was bailed to return to officers in November as further inquiries are carried out.

The 22-year-old woman had been walking along London Road South shortly before 8.30am on Thursday, August 14 when a substance – believed to be sulphuric acid – was thrown in her face.

A police spokesman said that the woman was taken to James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston by paramedics before being transferred to another hospital where she remains in a 'stable condition.'

The spokesman said: 'On Wednesday, September 10, a 47-year-old man was arrested at his home address in Lowestoft in connection with the assault and later released on police bail until Thursday, October 16 pending further inquiries.'

A 25-year-old man from Lowestoft is also on police bail after having been arrested on Friday, August 15 in connection with the attack. He is due to return to a police investigation centre on Wednesday, November 5 while further inquiries are carried out.

Leon Thompson, 38, of Alma Road in Lowestoft, was arrested a few hours after the attack and later charged with one count of throwing a corrosive fluid with intent to disfigure and cause grievous bodily harm.

The unemployed man was detained in police custody and appeared at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Saturday, August 16. He then appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on August 26 and was remanded in court custody as the case was adjourned until November 7 for a plea and directions hearing.
