Two elderly women have died following a house fire in Norfolk.

The fire broke out in the roof of a property on Lower Road, Holme Hale, near Necton at about 3.30pm today. Fire crews from Swaffham, Watton and Dereham as well as the aerial ladder platform from Earlham attended.

A police spokesman said officers were called to the property and confirmed that two elderly woman had died as a result of the fire.

Police officers have this evening cordoned off the scene as fire crews investigate the cause of the fire although it is not thought at this stage to be suspicious.

A police spokesman said: 'At approximately 3.30pm officers attended a fire at Holme Hale. Sadly two elderly woman have died as a result of the incident. Officers remain at the scene as investigations continue but currently the cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious.'

Firefighters are still at the scene to make sure the fire does not reignite and will be there for some time.
