Two people have been arrested and cannabis seized after a raid in a Norwich street as police clamp down on drug dealing in the city.

Police searched a property on Motum Road on Tuesday as part of Operation Deadlock. They recovered cannabis as well as several seedlings in the first stages of cultivation.

High value items believed to be stolen have also been seized and enquiries are ongoing to identify the owner of this property.

A David Hart, 38, of Motum Road, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis. He will appear at Norwich Magistrates' Court on June 9 2010.

A woman in her thirties was arrested and released without charge.

Sgt Dave Cooper from the Earlham, Larkman and Marlpit safer neighbourhood team said the raid showed the force would act on complaints from the public.

He added: 'Operation Deadlock is targeting those responsible for dealing drugs across Norwich and we are taking positive action to stop drug activity in the area.'

Safer neighbourhood teams are working with Norfolk police's intelligence and special operations units to target organised drug dealing and acquisitive crime within our communities.

'We urge anyone with information about illegal drug use to contact the police,' Sgt Cooper added.

If you have any information regarding drug activity in your area you can contact your safer neighbourhood team on 0845 456 567 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
