The family of a popular motorcyclist, who died in a road crash, say they have been 'overwhelmed' by the heartfelt support they have received.

Ryan Durrant, 20, of Attleborough, died after coming off his red Honda CBR motorcycle on Sunday afternoon.

His father Andy Durrant and mother Bridget Russell said they felt devastated and empty by the tragedy, but also immensely proud from the countless warm tributes which have been paid to their son.

So far about 120 flowers have been left at the accident site, while thousands of comments have been left on a Facebook tribute group and memorial websites.

Such is the outpouring of support that Ryan's family have allowed his friends to plan parts of his funeral, including a walking procession and the music which will be played.

Mr Durrant said: 'We have learnt so much about our own son this week. We have been overwhelmed by it all. It makes me the proudest man in the world.'

Mrs Russell said: 'A young lad in an army cadet uniform put down a little note (at the accident site). We said we were his parents and he said 'I didn't know him but all I have heard is what a wonderful person he was.'

'He had got his dad to bring him down and they held a minute's silence that night. That's from someone who didn't know him.'

Ryan was heading along Hargham Road to a barbecue at his mother's home near New Buckenham when, for unknown reasons, he swerved to the right side of the road, came off his bike and ended up partly in a ditch.

As well as his mother and father, he is survived by stepmother Paula Durrant, stepfather Gordon Russell, brothers Harley, 16, Jordan, 15, and sister Crystal, 15.

Ryan, a former Old Buckenham High School pupil, was a member of Attleborough boxing club, the Amazon gym in Shropham, the East Anglian Cruise Club, had played five-a-side football in Norwich and was a black belt in the martial art shotkan.

His passion was cars and motorcycles, the latter of which he had ridden since he was 16. He worked at Dingle's Toyota, in Attleborough, for three years and had become a fully qualified paint sprayer last month.

Ryan's family will be driving his BMW coupe to the Modified Car Show in Peterborough today , which he was due to attend.

His family wish to thank the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EEEA), paramedics, the police and funeral directors RJ Bartram and Son for their help. They also wish to thank a couple who came upon Ryan after the accident and stayed with him until the emergency services arrived.

His funeral will take place at St Mary's Church, in Attleborough, on June 8 at 1pm, and people are requested to wear an element of red clothing as this is the colour spelled out by Ryan's initials. Donations for the EEEA can be sent to RJ Bartram and Son, in Hargham Road, Attleborough.

Anyone who witnessed the accident should call PC Richard Peck, of the Serious Collision Investigation Team, on 0845 456 4567.
