Blofield player-manager Darren Cox is looking to inject fresh momentum into a season which has 'hit a wall' after a flying start.

Last season's Sterry Cup runners-up certainly started the campaign as though they meant business, scoring goals for fun with six wins in a seven-match run which took them to the head of affairs. But the progress has stalled over the past three games with two defeats and a draw.

Strangely enough the lean spell has come after they were flagged up as the team to beat on Radio Norfolk.

'I was interviewed on Radio Norfolk and Bill Punton talked up our chances. We haven't won a game since,' laughed Cox. 'We lost to St Andrews, lost to Acle and drew with Spixworth so we have hit a bit of a wall.'

Despite the setbacks long- serving Cox, who captained the team to two Sterry Cup and two Mummery Cup triumphs, is confident of regaining the winnng habit.

A break from league action might do the trick as the Beavers travel to Wells in the Mummery Cup this Saturday and the following week they entertain Norwich St Johns at home in the Norfolk Senior Cup last 16.

'The Sterry Cup is what it's all about so we want to win the league and I believe we can. We want to win the Mummery Cup, we were knocked out on penalties by Spixworth in the semi-finals last season. We would also love to do well in the Norfolk Senior Cup although it's a big ask when you have got Norwich City in the competition – but I'm the sort of person who goes into every game believing we can win.'

Cox, who plays at centre back, has enjoyed three Sterry Cup wins in his 10 years with Blofield, who have won the coveted Premier title a record-breaking six times in all.

So he has a pretty good idea of what it takes.

'It's all about attitude, having that will to win even when you are 2-0 down or whatever, you never give up – that's always been the Blofield way.'

Blofield's players are determined not to let the club's current off-pitch problems overshadow their efforts.

The club is battling to complete up to 15,000 worth of toilets, showers and changing room improvements by an FA-imposed March 31 deadline.

Ten of the Anglian Combination's top flight club's have been ordered to meet strict new standards demanded for Step Seven clubs – with those failing to deliver the goods in time facing the prospect of demotion, regardless of what they achieve on the pitch this season.

'I think if we got to February and still nothing had been done we would be a little bit more worried about it as players. But we trust the people who are dealing with it and working hard to put it right,' said Cox.

'The boys are aware that the club needs to raise money and people are coming up with ideas.'
