A village road is to shut for 12 days with drivers warned they could face a £1,000 fine if they break the rules.

Thieves Lane in Salhouse is closing from its junction with Lower Street next month for path construction works.

A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) has been issued by Norfolk County Council which prohibits motorists from travelling on a section of the road during the works.

A diversion route will be in place with traffic directed from Thieves Lane to the B1140 Norwich Road/Mill Road and Lower Street.

A £1,000 maximum fine could be issued to those found guilty of breaking the rules while they are in place between July 10 and July 21.

Norfolk County Council said that while the work is expected to take 12 days, the restriction could run for a maximum period of 18 months from the date of the order if deemed necessary.

The council-issued TTRO is enforceable by police and the local district council.

Any fines for breach of the road closure will be issued by the police.
