Live music is thriving in Norwich and a popular city pub wants local bands in the area to get in touch if they need a stage to play on.

The Blueberry Music House in Cowgate boasts that it's the best live music pub in Norwich, although there is a lot of competition around.

It hosts live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday and all of its gigs (unless specified) have free entry.

Every Monday night at the Blueberry is a jazz session, and it has also just started a Sunday social with acoustic music in the afternoon.

Sally Cooke, who has been in charge at the Blueberry Music House for 15 years, learned her trade as a barmaid at the King's Head in Magdalen Street, and at two city pubs that no longer exist – the Duke of Norfolk in Mousehold Lane, which is now an Indian restaurant, and the Elm Tavern, which has been demolished.

She said: 'We want to make young bands aware that we are here and we have a stage.

'In the past we have had bands coming from France to play here and we also had a Punkfest.

'The message to bands in Norwich is that there is another live music venue out there that wants to hear from you.

'We already have all ages coming to the pub for the music and quite a few musicians also drink here and use it as a meeting place.'

The pub is also famed for its hospitality and as a community pub it keeps an eye on its regulars, some of whom come in every day, with staff going out to check on them if they don't show.

It's owned by Richardson's Group, a family-run company that, as well as owning other pubs in Norwich including the Hog in Armour and the Racecourse, offers self-drive boats on the Norfolk Broads and self-catering, full or half board, family or adult holidays.

The pub is holding a charity day on the Bank Holiday weekend for breast cancer research.
