More than 3,200 miles were travelled by regulars at a Norwich pub to raise more than 3,500 for charity.

Five teams escaped from the Alexandra Tavern in Norwich's Golden Triangle as part of a charity 'jailbreak' event.

It also marked the celebrations of the landlord and landlady, Tiny and Anita Little's, 25th year at the pub since moving down from Scotland.

The five teams were all recaptured 50 hours after their escape, returning to a fun day at the Stafford Street pub, and helping to raise more than 3,500 for Break, a charity which supports vulnerable children in Norfolk.

One of the teams, The A'lex Team, visited more than 25 places with 'Alex' in the name, including an Indian restaurant in London, a pub in Felixstowe and a yacht club in Southend.

Another, Geeks on Peaks, undertook the Three Peaks Challenge of Ben Nevis in Scotland, Snowdon in Wales and Scarfel Pike in Cumbria, Great Britain's three tallest mountains.

The Guilty by Association team travelled up to Stirling in Scotland, the PINP team from Norfolk Constabulary were captured and released numerous times on their mostly bike trek around Norfolk and finally Lumpy Porridge, an unlikely bunch of four friends, plus Scooby the dog, cycled the coast of Norfolk.

Sarah Bunn, senior fundraising officer, said: 'Congratulations to all our teams – we have been astounded at the feats they have achieved.

'While they have travelled they have been talking about Break and telling people about the good work we do with vulnerable children in Norfolk and beyond, as well as raising money to support our services. Many have gone nearly 50 hours without much sleep at all, but still come back elated from what they have done.

'Thank you to Tiny and Neet of the Alexandra Tavern who have shown what a really good pub has – heart and a loyal following – and thank you also to our sponsors, in particular Heineken, as well as supporters and the teams themselves.'
