Exam success and excellence has been celebrated at Thorpe St Andrew High School with an awards evening for the school's senior students.
There were some exceptional achievements to be celebrated at the school as well, with BBC reporter and Labour candidate for the Norwich South parliamentary seat, Clive Lewis, on hand as a guest speaker.
Emilio Morabito was one of the top headline grabbers, claiming the Chair of Governors’ Prize after achieving full marks in all four of his physics A-Level modules.
The Richard Barrington Memorial Award, a community prize donated by the parents of a student killed while at the Thorpe sixth-form, went to Jordan Gooch.
Mr and Mrs Barrington attend the awards ceremony every year and were present to see Jordan handed the award, as he had battled serious illness during the last year and was unanimously voted as an inspirational student by all his peers in year 13.
The Ron Bradley Young Citizen Award, donated by the Rotary Club in memory of Ron Bradley, was awarded to Sophie Morris.
Sophie had excelled as a student leader and was also willing to speak on behalf of year 11 on results day last summer in a live interview with Radio Norwich.
Principal Ian Clayton congratulated all the winners and said: “Success for all drives all we do here at Thorpe St Andrew School and the senior awards evening is a very special opportunity to celebrate both examination success and students’ contribution to our school community.”
There were also 35 Norfolk Scholar awards given to sixth-form students, which were presented by deputy head girl, Holly Warman, and head boy, Martin Cavendish.
Norfolk County Council gives these award to students studying in Norfolk sixth-forms and colleges to recognise the achievement of a high academic standard at level three, such as A-Level, BTEC or other similar qualifications.
