An enterprising seven-year-old from Thorpe Hamlet is organising a Halloween party to raise money for charity.

Caleb Haze was so affected when he saw a television advert for Save the Children that he decided to do something to help.

First he held a sponsored silence, then he sold cakes to neighbours and did a sponsored walk, and now he is arranging a party – all for the charity.

The Norwich Free School pupil is organising the entire event, with a little aid from his parents Wayne and Lauren Haze, of Cubitt Road.

Mrs Haze, 30, said: 'It was probably about two months ago that he saw an advert for Save the Children which upset him.

'The biggest issue was that he eats a lot and the advert was about them having no food, and for him not being able to eat is the biggest disaster known to man.'

Mrs Haze, who has previously held fundraising events for cancer charities, said that she spoke to him about how he could help the children. She said he started with a sponsored silence, and with the money he raised from that bought cake mixes which he then made and sold to neighbours.

On September 25 he raised 200 from a sponsored walk around Whitlingham, and now he is organising a Halloween Party.

Mrs Haze, a mother of two, said: 'It seems the more he raises the more he wants to raise.

'If you ask him why he wants to raise the money, as a typical seven-year-old he will say I don't know. But ask what Save the Children do, what his money will help them do, and he can tell you.'

Caleb asked the William IV pub, in Quebec Road, if he could hold the event in their function room and they agreed to provide a disco.

Mrs Haze said: 'He is now in the process of writing letters to local businesses for raffle prizes. He is going in and asking himself, with background help from mummy and daddy.'

He is even starting to think about Christmas fundraising ideas.

Mrs Haze said that her and husband Wayne, 28, were very proud of their eldest son.

She said: 'We are very proud of him. He is such a clever little boy, kind and caring, even though he was diagnosed with ADHD and finds it difficult to concentrate.'

The Halloween Party will be held on Sunday, October 30. It will include a costume competition, raffle and disco. Tickets are 2.
