Bo Nanafana Social Club host The Correspondents and Dutty Moonshine Big Band for a night of electro-swing, retro-beats and cabaret — Easter bonnets optional!
Norwich cabaret kings and queens Bo Nanafana will give Easter their own unique twist at their latest night that will give another meaning to the term bunny girls.
The Easter Bunny Boiler at the Waterfront on March 29 will see performances from, The Correspondents, the Dutty Moonshine Big Band and a special guest appearance My Bad Sister – aka twins Polly and Sophie Duniam, who were once X Factor wannabes.
Bo Nanafana Social Club, affectionately called Bo, is named after a line in the Shirley Ellis song The Name Game, released in 1965, has won a huge following for a string of cabaret nights in various Norwich venues, the Norfolk and Norwich Festival Spiegeltent and a spell in Great Yarmouth.
Amid the rise in popularity nationally of cabaret, burlesque and variety, they began by drawing small crowds in Norwich pubs which quickly picked up a cult follow and led to them regularly attracting 700-plus sell out crowds.
Each night has a different theme, ranging from Parisian oh-la-la to the Wild West — saloon girls and cowboys, Big Bamboo — skalypso swing, Shore Leave — nautical 1940s and Cold War — From Russia with Love.
This latest Easter offering again encourages the audience to don fancy dress, with a theme of the Roaring Twenties or Easter bonnets.
The Correspondents are an electro swing duo, formed by frontman Mr Bruce and DJ Chucks. Their hi-octane genre-blending dance music has Mr Bruce singing with force, scatting at speed and dancing like his life depends on it while Chucks plunders a multitude of genres from jazz to drum n bass.
The Dutty Moonshine Big Band is a jazz-trained band that take the sounds of the 1930s and merge them with modern basslines and chunky beats. Think Duke Ellington's Caravan performed as a huge garage banger, or a New Orleans funeral song turned into a whisky soaked mid-tempo breakbeat dancefloor destroyer.
Meanwhile upstairs in the Waterfront Studio will be the sound of R&B miracles with 4DJones, Rockabilly resurrectionists The Phantom Cowboys DJs Dan de'Lion and DJ78, a glorious Charleston stroll lesson and much more.
