The first Norwich Fashion Week has come to an end. Emma Harrowing looks back on the best bits from the week that celebrated local independent fashion and discovers that Norwich Fashion Week is far from over.

As the curtain went down at the 1970s style finale of the spring and summer season of Norwich Fashion Week at Frank's Bar it marked the end of a week that was one of the best celebrations of our city's fashion for a long while.

If you were one of the many who supported our local retailers and attended some, if not all, of the events you would have been given a taster of the spring and summer trends on the catwalk, learnt how you can wear this season's fashions with style and, like us, probably ate far too much cake.

The week gave a little taster as to how much talent our city has when it comes to fashion. From fashion designers to new talent from City College Norwich to fashion photography to the many independent fashion retailers, Norwich proved that it can offer style and fashion with flair.

And this is just the beginning. The catwalk may have been taken down, the retailers have gone back to their day jobs and the designers are working on commissions, but Norwich Fashion Week will be back – and this time with a bang.

'Norwich Fashion Week brought a buzz of excitement to the city at such a dull time of the year,' says Jayne Raffles from The Library Restaurant, who set up Norwich Fashion Week with Anita Vadhir from Vanilla.

'To bring small unknown designers to the forefront of the city's fashion scene and to see what new talent we have in the city with the involvement of students from City College Norwich alongside the many independent fashion retailers showed how diverse fashion is in Norwich.'

Plans are already in place to hold the next Norwich Fashion Week in the autumn and although details are still very much under wraps organisers Jayne and Anita promise that the week will be bigger and better than before.

Says Anita: 'The main ethos of Norwich Fashion Week is to celebrate independent fashion in Norwich and improve the links between business and education. The event has attracted a lot of interest from other independent businesses and large retailers, which will provide the opportunity for large and small to work together to create a superb event in the autumn.'

For the independent retailers and local designers already involved with Norwich Fashion Week the event was an amazing success.

Roberta Pumer from Ethika on Timberhill stocks many of the designs from the local designers who showcased on the catwalk. Says Roberta: 'Norwich Fashion Week gave us the opportunity to showcase the exceptional local talent championed by Ethika. For our designers it was the chance to show their work on the catwalk and receive well deserved recognition. We are looking forward to the next Norwich Fashion Week.'

David Finlay from independent men's clothing retailer Elements on Lower Goat Lane agrees: 'Norwich Fashion Week is a fantastic event and it has a lot of potential to grow as more retailers get on board with this celebration of independent fashion in Norwich. Everyone needs to get involved with the next NFW in September.'
