A Bowthorpe teenager has been ordered to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work after a 'kerfuffle' outside a city nightclub.

Jake Robert Cheetham, 18, admitted resisting arrest and using abusive language and behaviour outside the Qube nightclub, in Prince of Wales Road, in the early hours of Saturday, January 16.

The court heard how the apprentice mechanic was with another man, Daniel Warman, 19, who was asked to leave the nightclub because he was smoking on the premises.

Richard Paterson, prosecuting, said Cheetham had then 'squared up' to one of the door staff and the pair were ejected.

Mr Paterson said: 'Having done that, both Mr Warman and Mr Cheetham were outside being abusive and were said to be acting aggressively.

'The police officers then arrive and Mr Cheetham was aggrieved at having been thrown out of the club and continued to be verbally abusive speaking to the police officers.

'When they were about to arrest him, he ran away a few yards and had to be caught.'

Cheetham, who previously pleaded guilty to the resisting a police officer charge, had been due to stand trial at Norwich Magistrates' Court yesterday, but changed his plea at the last minute to guilty for the charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.

James Landles, mitigating, said: 'He is prone to losing his temper and acting in an aggressive manner.'

However, he said his client was currently subject to a probation order for a previous offence and was about to start aggression replacement treatment.

Cheetham was also ordered to pay 60 towards the prosecution costs.

Warman, of Grays Fair, Costessey, who previously pleaded guilty to a charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, had been due to be sentenced on the same day.

His case, which was heard in separate courtroom, was adjourned until Wednesday, May 5, and he was granted unconditional bail.
