Students from City College Norwich have raised £116 for a disability charity by selling homemade cakes and fudge and home-grown plants.

The fundraising for the Papworth Trust is part of a national School Accumulator challenge to turn £50 into as much profit as possible in just 10 weeks.

The School Accumulator Challenge was launched on November 3 and runs until the end of January 2015. It will be followed by a prize-giving event for the members of the winning teams.

Competing teams of students have been given £50 and 10 weeks to turn it into as much profit as possible.

All funds raised will be donated to the Papworth Trust, which provides essential services for disabled and older people.

The team of hospitality and horticulture enterprise students from City College were given the start-up fund of £50 by the lead sponsor of the project, Mr Hugh's Rapeseed Oil.

They used this fund to buy ingredients for the baked goods and fudge, which were sold at a Christmas Forum and at the college.

Papworth Trust community fundraising manager Jacqueline Cameron said: 'This challenge is designed for students to show their entrepreneurial and money-raising talents to turn their original stake into as much cash as possible.

'All funds raised will then be used to support disabled and older people and their families in the community. Huge thanks to Mr Hugh's for sponsoring the competition.'
