Kirsha with Evy Harding, who died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

Kirsha Harding, 21, lost her three-month-old sister Evy Rose in January last year. Since then, the Hardings have tirelessly fundraised in her memory, and now it's Kirsha's turn.

“She was gorgeous,” said Miss Harding. “She was happy and looked healthy. We didn’t realise what was going to happen.”

Evy Rose died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in January 2013, while Kirsha was away from home studing nursing at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.

“I think something like that scars you for life,” she said. “It’s still hard. It has changed our whole family, we’re not quite the same.”

Kirsha’s father Stephen and his fiancee Hayley Lea have gone on to have another baby, Isasbella, and have been supported by the Lullaby Trust, who Miss Harding will raise money for by running the London Marathon next year.

“I was looking for support and there wasn’t a great deal out there,” she said.

“I didn’t know about the charity when Evy died, it’s not promoted that well. I just want to make people aware of it, I’m sure there are lots of families out there that don’t get that amount of support.”

The Lullaby Trust helps families bereaved by a sudden infant death, and has been a support for the family after Isabella was born.

The Trust runs a Care Of Next Infant programme, helping parents care for a baby after having lost a child.

Miss Harding is training six days a week for the challenge, determined to raise as much as possible for the charity.

She said: “I can do it knowing that it’s for Evy - she’ll be in the back of my mind. I’m sure it will get me to the finish line.”

To donate, visit or text EVYH93 and the amount you want to donate to 70070.
