Organisers of a major steam engine event are hoping for fine weather over the bank holiday weekend.

Organisers of a major steam engine event are hoping for fine weather over the bank holiday weekend.

The 18th annual Strumpshaw Steam Rally is being held on tomorrow, Sunday and Monday at Strumpshaw Hall, near Brundall, seven miles east of Norwich.

More than 50 steam engines will be exhibited at the event along with miniature steam engines, vintage and classic cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles and tractors, military vehicles, stationary engines, models and fairground organs.

A full programme of parades will take place each day along with demonstrations of many of the exhibits at work.

There will also be an old-time fairground, Christie organ concerts, a craft tent, trade stalls and a licensed bar and refreshments. The venue's campsite is already fully-booked over the weekend.

The Evening News will be represented and our special goodie bags will be available. Entry to the Strumpshaw Steam Museum will also be included in the admission price.

Organiser Paul Worbey said: “We've got steam engines travelling from places as far afield as Dorset, Nottingham and Bedfordshire, as well as the local contingent.

“We'll also have 120 vintage tractors, lots of classic vehicles - commercials, cars and motorcycles - and heavy horses.

“We've got a nice old-time fairground, some of it driven by steam, and it should be a real family day out. There's plenty here for everybody.

“We're expecting to draw in 15,000 over the course of the weekend if the weather is good, which we hope it will be.”

The gates open at 9.30am each day. Entry costs £8 for adults, £2 for children aged 13 to 15 while children 12 and under go free.
