HEARTSEASE

The Thorpe and District Gardening Club Meeting of the 23rd February was the Annual Lunch held at the Cottage in Thorpe St Andrew with guests Maggie and Peter Edwards. Members decided that it would be nice to pick someone from our local community who does things to support various charities and Maggie and Peter fitted that bill nicely. They hold plant sales at their home in Thorpe each June and raise funds for two charities, the Norfolk Renal Fund and Macmillan. Maggie is lucky to have good friends who help her with space in their gardens, and greenhouses, for all the plants, and also with her sales, anything left over from club sales usually ends up with her. Maggie and Peter have a son called Tim who is the reason for fund raising for the Renal Fund. Tim has recently had a transplant and is doing well at present.

A short meeting to cover club business was held before the lunch began. After the meal presentations were made, firstly a donation to Maggie for the Norfolk Renal Fund and then gifts to Janet Clements and Janet Battle who had both stood down from roles as Chair and Vice Chair of the club. A quiz was followed by a raffle which ended an enjoyable event for those present.

Next meeting on March 30 is 'The Story of Gooderstone Water Gardens' with Coral Hoyos 7.30pm Windmill, Plumstead Road.
