It's been a terrible week for Spencer, the boxer cross callously abandoned in a Norwich park.

Found with his legs tied together and a string around his neck, the well-kept brown and white hound was lucky a passer-by found him when they did.

Left for dead on Saturday morning at Sloughbottom Park in Mile Cross, police and RSPCA officers feared Spencer could have laid there for several hours.

But seven days on and the RSPCA have said he is making a speedy recovery at a specialist rehabilitation centre, well known for helping dogs which have been traumatised.

Despite the cruelty, the now happy and healthy dog named by the RSPCA does not seem to have a fear of ropes and cables, despite being bound up by them. And already he has made a firm friend in a toy crocodile, now inseparable.

An RSPCA spokesman said: 'It is early days, but the news so far is that Spencer is doing really well and is a really bouncy, affectionate and lively dog despite what he has been through.'

Generous Evening News readers have not let Spencer down, rallying to his aid by raising a £2,550 reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of the criminals responsible.

Norfolk police are continuing to investigate with the RSPCA, looking to identify both the owner and the attackers. Spencer is thought to be around four-years-old, was not micro-chipped and was without any identification tags.

Anyone with any information should call 101 or the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018, or to give information anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
