Families fed-up with speeding traffic sending vibrations through their Norwich home have called for lower speed limits on the city's ring road.

People living in Mornington Road say that the worn road surface on Colman Road means traffic zooming past creates noise and vibrations.

At a meeting of Norwich Highways Agency Committee last week, one of the householders raised the issue and asked if flashing speed limit reminder signs could be installed.

David Woods, who lives in Mornington Road, said the vibrations had got worse since a pedestrian crossing was completed last summer and said lumps had been left from road workings.

He said: 'It has helped pedestrians greatly to cross this busy road, but has made it much more uncomfortable for us as local residents and, in the long-run, may be damaging our property.'

Mr Woods said it got even worse when vehicles exceeded the 30mph speed limit and added: 'The effect is worse from heavy goods vehicles and buses and the vibrations during this period can be violent and shakes the house.'

He was backed by Adrian Ramsay, Green city councillor for Nelson ward, who called on officers to present a report into speeds on Colman Road as part of proposals to introduce more 20mph limits around Norwich.

Council officer Andy Watt said a team would inspect the 'lumps' which Mr Woods said had been left and would raise the speeding issue with the police.
