The son of fallen former Norwich City football star Peter Mendham has appeared in court after breaching the conditions of his bail.

The son of fallen former Norwich City football star Peter Mendham has appeared in court after breaching the conditions of his bail.

Ross Mendham, 26, from Peregrine Mews, Cringleford, appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court yesterdaywhere he admitted breaching his bail on Saturday.

Mendham, who has previously been charged with an offence of common assault, has been on bail since early February on the condition that he resides at his address in Peregrine Mews, Cringleford, that he adheres to a 24 hour curfew unless he is in the company of Gaby Mendham or Roger Middleton, and that he does not contact witnesses in the case.

Mark Davis, prosecuting, said that Mendham was seen on Saturdayin the White Woman Lane area and was therefore in breach of his bail conditions as he was not with either Mrs Mendham or Mr Middleton. He said it had been the second time Mendham had breached his bail conditions.

David Foulkes, mitigating, said Mendham had been on a 24 hour curfew since February 3 and while he realises he should not have been there it “simply got too much for him”. Mr Foulkes said: “He went out, knows it was foolish and very much put his liberty in jeopardy.”

Mr Foulkes added that Mendham has been in custody since Saturday evening and has had “plenty of time to reflect” on his actions.

Dick Meadows, chair of the bench, renewed Mendham's bail with the same conditions. He was ordered to reappear at Norwich Magistrates Court on June 8 at 2pm.

Peter Mendham was recently in prison serving a five year sentence for wounding with intent. Mendham, who played 267 games for City, was arrested in October 2006 and later charged with the attempted murder of his girlfriend at their home in Trowse.
