Shirley Williams to visit Norwich

Former Labour cabinet minister and founding member of SDP Baroness Williams will be in Norwich tomorrow to support Lib Dem candidate Simon Wright.

Former Labour cabinet minister and founding member of SDP Baroness Williams will be in Norwich tomorrow to support Lib Dem candidate Simon Wright.

Shirley Williams, one of the 'gang-of-four' who broke from Labour to form the SDP in 1981, is again set to join Lib Dem volunteers canvassing in Norwich South after a trip to the city last year as the party attempts to woo Labour voters to their cause.

Mr Wright said: ''m delighted that Shirley is joining me again in Norwich. She came to give her support to my campaign last year, and she's coming back to help our final push to gain Norwich South from Labour.

“Many people I've spoken to in this election who normally describe themselves as Labour supporters are voting Lib Dem this time. Britain has a widening wealth gap, rising unemployment, inadequate pensions, and an unfair tax system. People have been let down by a Labour party that's run out of ideas on how to make Britain a fair place for everyone to live. The Liberal Democrats are offering fairness and change in this election.”
