A search is on to trace a second world war airman so that his family can attend a memorial in Markelo in The Netherlands.

As reported, New Zealander Darryl Robertson traced the family of Flight Sergeant Navigator Christopher 'Kit' Chandler, from Stoke Holy Cross, thanks to help from the Evening News.

He is now looking for help to trace another Norfolk man whose plane crashed in Markelo in the war. Flight Sgt Kenneth George Legge or Legg, air gunner, service number 539691, from Norwich, died when his bomber crashed on May 24, 1943. Markelo is planning a 70th memorial event and the unveiling of a sculpture in honour of the men who died from the three bombers that crashed near the town in 1943.

The town wants the relatives of the 18 men who died and the three men who survived to attend. Mr Robertson said: 'I hope we can find this person's family. It's a little trickier as I am working on a strong hunch that the person listed on the Eaton War Memorial is the same person as the man who died in Markelo, even though the spelling is different. They have the same role and the same medal.'
