Worries about the dwindling numbers of seals being seen at Blakeney Point have been alleviated this week as more and more have now started to appear.

Last week, boat operators running boat trips up to the point, which is known as one of the best places in the county to spot seals, said they had not seen nearly as many seals as they would expect at this time of year.

Experts said at the time there was no explanation for the fewer numbers but pointed to the fact there may not have been enough fish and food in the water.

But over the past five days, more and more have been spotted coming back into the colony.

Paul Bishop, who runs Bishop's Boats, which operates tours from Blakeney harbour or Morston quay, said: 'Both grey and common seals, at least two dozen plus have been seen on Blakeney Point every day for the last five days. It looks like they are back to stay.'

David Wood, head warden with the Blakeney branch of the National Trust, said the numbers were increasing again as the seals returned.
