Crime hotspots in rural areas will be targeted with a new specialist police surveillance van.
Norfolk Constabulary will be bolstering its presence in Breckland after councillors approved the purchase of a �39,000 CCTV van.
The mobile surveillance unit will be added to a state-of-the-art, �3.5m surveillance system which went live this month, with more than 60 cameras installed in Dereham, Swaffham, Watton, Thetford and Attleborough.
The van will allow the same level of scrutiny to take place in rural areas where problems with crime are identified.
Plans for the mobile system were finalised yesterday after Breckland's cabinet approved its purchase, with the cost split between the Breckland Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) and Norfolk Constabulary, with a small contribution from Flagship Housing Association.
Breckland Executive Member for Communities and Benefits, Theresa Hewett, said: 'This is a fabulous opportunity to add to our CCTV provision at no extra cost to Breckland.'
