Seven would-be brides are set to brighten up Royal Wedding street parties across Norwich on April 29.

Norfolk and Waveney's cancer charity Big C is allowing students and bar staff across the city to wear some of its vintage wedding dresses at the street parties on the day.

The aim is to highlight the variety and quality of vintage wedding dresses on sale at Big C's Timberhill shop, which are on offer from 10 to 20.

Ruth Perfitt, Big C wedding shop manager, said: 'The object of encouraging the girls to wear these dresses for their street party is to let people know that Big C has a wedding floor of donated dresses. This helps the Big C raise 20,000 a year for the benefit of local people. But we still need donations, at this time when everybody is thinking about weddings.'

Meanwhile, former UEA student Laura Whitehead, 23, arranged for the third consecutive year to hold a vintage frock sale at the university in aid of the Big C where she previously worked as a volunteer, and raised more than 800.

Laura, who graduated from the UEA two years ago and is now the general manager at the Mulberry gastropub in Unthank Rood, said: 'I have arranged the event for the last three years and now Big C is allowing us to wear these dresses for a street party on the Royal Wedding day, which I'm absolutely looking forward to.'

Three members of staff at the Birdcage pub in Pottergate, Norwich will be wearing the wedding dresses at a street party in St Gregory's Street.

They are Bethany Capener, 20, Katie Allard, 22, who is also a singer with Norwich band Kabeedies, and Hannah Ruffell, 23.

Suzannah Hall, 24, who works at the Langtry pub in Unthank Road, and Francesca Currie, 21, who is studying fine arts painting at the Norwich University College of the Arts, are also hoping to wear the dresses at street parties on the day. Leigh Noble, 29, who is Big C community fundraiser, could also join them.
