A Caister Road has reopened after a two-vehicle crash saw woman airlifted to hospital this morning.

Emergency services were called just before 11am to Caister Bypass, near to the Prince of Wales Road junction, where two women were trapped in their cars following an accident.

Of the two cars - a silver Vauxhall Astra and a black Mini - one car was upside down while another was smoking, a Norfolk Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said.

Five fire crews, as well as two ambulance crews, a rapid response vehicle, ambulance officer and East Anglian Air Ambulance were on the scene just outside Ormesby St Margaret,.

The fire crews freed the women using hydraulic rescue equipment, and one, in her 70s was taken to James Paget Hospital in Gorleston with back, chest, leg and hand injuries.

But the other, in her 50s, was airlifted to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with a potentially life-changing facial injury.

Fire crews left at around 12.28pm, but the road was still closed until around 4.20pm while police and recovery deal with the incident.

The road has now reopened and police are appealing for witnesses.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or the manner of driving prior to the incident. They’re asked to call PC Oliver Ketteridge from Acle’s Road PolicingTeam on 101.
