A blocked sewer caused problems for residents in a village near Norwich.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service was called to the incident on School Lane in Little Melton at about 7.30am on Wednesday, after unlucky residents woke to find raw sewage in their homes.
Anglian Water technicians have removed the blockage and said people living in the area can continue to use their toilets and washing machines as normal.
The road remains blocked while crews carry out further investigations to ensure there are no further blockages.
John McDonald, who lives next to the village shop, came downstairs on Wednesday morning to find his ground floor flooded with water from the sewerage system.
He said: "It was outside the main shop and down the bottom end of the lane. We had to call the fire brigade. The man hole covers were full to the brim."
Mr McDonald said there had been problems with the village's sewerage system since a new housing development went up in Hethersett.
He added: "Anglian Water have sent someone out to look at it but the issue may arise again."
An Anglian Water spokesperson said: "Our teams have successfully completed work to remove a blockage in our sewer on School Lane in Little Melton.
"We believe this blockage has been caused by fats and other unflushable items being wrongly disposed of down the drain and is not an issue caused by insufficient capacity in our network.
"Unfortunately, although our teams were on site quickly, the blockage has caused some flooding in the local area.
"People wrongly disposing of unflushables items down the drain and causing blockages like these costs us £19m a year, money that could ultimately be better spent elsewhere, as well as damaging the environment.
"This why we ask people to only flush the three Ps - paper, poo and pee."
He added: "We'd like to thank residents for their continued patience and understanding while we complete this work."
