One reader thinks the RSPB is missing the bigger picture. What do you think?

I adore wild birds, mammals and fish but I cannot bear being lectured to by academics with no comprehension of the subject they are pontificating about.

That is the RSPB's problem.

Instead of worrying about frogs and toads, whose survival is more dependant on water pollution and reduced rainfall, why don't they concentrate on preserving our garden birds which are being slaughtered by magpies, buzzards and other winged predators whose protection ensures that essential imbalance of nature.

The same problem exists with seals, cormorants and saw billed ducks all of which are decimating the breeding salmon stock in our Scottish rivers. Culling has always been the way mankind has ensured a balance of nature and healthy populations.

I will not support RSPB because they are ignoring the wider picture and planners need to do their bit and ensure that new housing developments have bigger gardens that can assist both the owners and their families and the wildlife populations.
