A limited number of tickets are available for a rare concert by the Band of the Life Guards that will raise money for the Light Dragoons Colonel's Appeal.

The band was formed in 1659 and now plays at state events, including investitures at Buckingham Palace and state banquets, and members have seen active service in both Iraq wars supporting medical units.

The concert has been organised by Paul Sandford, whose Railway Tavern pub is popular with troops from the Dragoons' Robertson Barracks in Swanton Morley.

Mr Sandford, who is a prolific fundraiser for military charities, said: 'It's support not just for the injured but for the families of the bereaved. That's what the fund is all about – people at the end of their army careers so they can get help and are not forgotten when they leave the forces.

'You hear about the fatalities all the time, which is sad, but quite often you get the injured by their side and they get forgotten about.

'It's a fantastic network, really. They have got something there to fall back on and they get the best of medical care as well.'

The concert, at Dereham Memorial Hall on Saturday September 22 from 7.30pm to 10.30pm, will be fully seated. Tickets cost 12 (10 for concessions) and are available in Dereham from the Railway Tavern, Birds Sports (behind Halford) and the EDP office in Dereham High Street.
