Norwich City fans have been warned that rail services may be at a 'standstill' following next Monday's play-off final at Wembley - because of a national strike over pay.

Network Rail bosses are meeting the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union to try and resolve matters.

The 24-hour strike is currently due to start at 5pm on bank holiday Monday. With the game against Middlesbrough kicking off at 3pm, the strike would start shortly after the match finishes, if it is settled within 90 minutes.

And that would significantly affect journeys for fans trying to catch trains home to Norwich.

Even without the strike, fans heading to London by rail face disruption. Due to work on London's Crossrail service, trains are starting and terminating at Stratford on the day, rather than at Liverpool Street.

A revised Sunday service will be in operation and the train provider is encouraging fans to check their website where for updates as to the likely impact to their journey.

The strike does not affect London Underground services and there are a number of alternatives to avoid the disruption. Supporters arriving by train at Stratford can take the Jubilee line direct to Wembley Park- which is situated at the start of Wembley Way. Alternatively, fans can take a Central line tube service to Liverpool Street and then join a Metropolitan line service to Wembley Park from there.

Drivers hoping to park on the outskirts of London at stations such as Gants Hill or Newbury Park via the A11 and M11 are also advised to change onto the Metropolitan Line at Liverpool Street. For drivers who wish to travel via the M25 and A1, Canons Park station is only three stops from Wembley Park.

Alternatively, fans are advised to use the club coach travel, or National Express bus services direct to Wembley Stadium. People are being urged to check the Greater Anglia Abellio website for updates on how the strike could affect travel when leaving the ground.
