A landlord has thanked the hospital that treated his son by using the proceeds of his pub's charity quiz to buy new DVD players for young patients.
Benjamin Kedzlie, 12, stayed for two days in the Buxton children's ward at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital after falling off a bike, cutting his head open and needing 20 stitches.
His parents Peter and Kathy Kedzlie, who run the Red Lion pub in Fakenham Road, Drayton, noticed while he was there in October that the ward was needed extra DVD players.
Mr Kedzlie said: 'Some of those kids have been in hospital several months, and apart from books to read, there did not seem to be that much to do.

'Each Monday we have a quiz night and we keep the money for charity. We took out about 900 from the kitty and that has paid for a box of about 20 DVD players for the ward. I hope it will give the kids something extra to play with.'
Emma Dolman, the Buxton ward sister, said they were very grateful for the gift, as the DVD players would replace those that were stolen last year.

She said: 'It's a very welcome addition as we do use them all the time.
'It means the majority of the children in the ward will now be able to have a portable DVD player by their bedsides. We don't just use them for entertainment, but also for distraction, when the children are unwell.
'At the time that Mr Kedzlie's son was in the ward, we did bring it to his attention that a number of DVD players had gone missing, and had been taken by patients or their families. That's where he probably got the idea from.'
