A burglar responsible for a one-man crime spree in Norwich was jailed for three years yesterday.

David Rope, from Ketts Close Hethersett, carried out nine burglaries and two attempted break-ins in March and April in the city.

Homes across the Golden Triangle area of Norwich and in the north of the city were broken into and computers, cameras and jewellery were all stolen.

The 42-year-old heroin addict admitted two charges of burglary on Shipstone Road on April 24, where he stole a camera worth £2,000 and Leonards Street between April 19 and April 22, where he took a rucksack, keys, a purse and theatre tickets.

Rope also asked for 11 other crimes to be taken into account by the court including seven burglaries, a theft and a fraud.

Andrew Oliver, mitigating, said Rope had a 'very sad upbringing'.

Recorder John Akast told Rope: 'Your problems overwhelmed you this spring'.

Norwich Policing Commander, Superintendent Dave Marshall, welcomed the sentence.

He said: 'This is a positive outcome and one which proves we are determined to target prolific offenders.

'Burglary is an invasion of people's homes and their personal space and can be very upsetting and distressing for the victims. It is pleasing to see that Rope is now behind bars where he can no longer commit crime and I hope this sentence provides some peace of mind for his victims while acting as a deterrent for others.'
