Primary school pupils discover the journey their food takes from farm to fork

Primary school pupils went behind the scenes at a supermarket to learn more about how their favourite meals end up on the dinner table.
The group from St John’s Community Primary School in Hoveton were treated to a close look at the major departments of the Tesco superstore in Norwich as part of the Farm to Fork scheme.
The projects sees suppliers across the country, including Tesco, teaching children about their food to suport their syllabus at school.
Norwich Farm to Fork Trail Leader Debby Kirby said: “It was a pleasure having St John’s Community Primary School attend our Farm to Fork trail.
“The aim of these trails is to inspire primary school children all over the country to learn more about the food on their plate and you could see that the children were really excited and enthusiastic.”
As part of their visit, the pupils got to try a piece of fruit and a cheese they had never tried before and then went on to the bakery department to make a roll to take home.
Richard Smith, Year 2 class leader said the children really enjoyed their visit.
He said: “They had a lovely time, they particularly enjoyed making the bread and tasting the cheese.
“They also got to hold some fish and tried some vegetables and fruit.
“Tasting was definitely their favourite bit, although the Stilton didn’t go down too well!”
