CHRIS COX MIND OVER PATTER

Cinema City, March 2, 12, 0871 7042050, www.picturehouses.co.uk

Paul Daniels proved the inspiration for Chris Cox. Radio 1's 'resident magician' first became interested in magic at the age of six, when he received a Paul Daniels Magic Set as a gift.

Ten years later he had been gripped by the psychological aspect of magic, specifically mind-reading, without actually being able to read minds. Now, still just 25-years-old, Chris has honed his skills performing on TV shows ranging from Comic Relief to Live & Kicking, The Big Breakfast to the Bafta-nominated Merlin.

Here he brings his Edinburgh show - a mix of psychology, body language, magic illusion and cheeky humour - to Norwich.

Cox is renowned for his incredible ability to predict the unpredictable. Join in the fun by unleashing the dormant mind-reader in you, making the mundane can be magical - a state where getting a seat on the train is always assured, the objects of your desire always find you irresistible - and even winning the lottery could be a possibility (maybe).

LADY HA HA

Norwich Playhouse, March 8, 10, 01603 598598, www.norwichplayhouse.org.uk

International Women's Day will be the excuse for this romp through the UK's hottest female comedy talents.

Ava Vidal (pictured), most recently seen on Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow, gets plenty of comedy mileage from her time at public school, as a prison officer and then a struggling teenage single mum. Luckily, the star Channel 4's Kings Of Comedy and BBC2's The Sack Race can laugh at her misfortunes.

Holly Walsh delivers some of the best bubblegum stand-up around. After making the unlikely swap of contemporary art for a career in comedy she was a finalist in 2006's So You Think You're Funny? and was named the best newcomer at the 2008 Chortle awards.

There will also be cutting edge musical comedy from Hackney Empire New Act of The Year finalist Vikki Stone. The whole evening is hosted by Real Radio's Best New Scottish Comedian of The Year 2009, Susan Calman, most recently to be seen on the The Rab C Nesbitt Show.

STEWART LEE

Norwich Playhouse, March 10, 16 (14 cons), 01603 598598, www.norwichplayhouse.org.uk

The co-writer of Jerry Springer: The Opera's latest show, If You Prefer A Milder Comedian, Please Ask For One, largely picks up where his acclaimed BBC2 show Comedy Vehicle left off. It's a furiously downbeat set inspired by an altercation in a high street coffee chain.

If you saw the show in October, you'll have some idea what to expect. If not, he explains: 'In this show, an account of something that happened to me in a coffee shop will be used as a convenient framing device for disparate material, possibly concerning English Heritage, Top Gear, the Olympics, emigration, prawns, Bella Pasta, The National Trust, farmers, DH Lawrence, piglets, cathedrals, bees, Iggy Pop, cider adverts and riots.'
